    Default mileage decrease in winter

Do you guys have a noticible decrease in mileage in the wintertime?

i drive pretty much the same, with the exception of warming up the car for maybe an extra 15-20 minutes / week for the last couple weeks.

i've noticed almost 20% less km's / tank...could this be caused by the idling or may there be something wrong? I wouldn't think idling would have THAT big of an effect.

I don't generally notice much of a mileage difference, but I don't usually leave my car idling a lot either. It can make a big difference.

I loose about 50-75 km a tank on my 01 Mustang due to warming it up in the winter mornings. It makes a huge difference on how long your tank last's when you let your car warm up every morning.

I get a decrease in mileage.... I hate sitting and driving in a cold car... hehe.

I try not to idle it too long, when the temp needle raises from sub-cold to cold I usually drive slowly and let it warm up, don't really drive hard or anything until it hits normal operating temps.

    i lose a lot.
I think its because gas stations switch to their winter gas.

It could also be because it takes more gas to get wherever you are going because of increased slippage etc. That, coupled with extra idling, are probably why.

I have only gotten around 320 so far, and i'm already close to empty.

Yeah, I've noticed it too in my Jetta. I used to get aroud 500KMs per tank in the nicer weather, but now I only get around 450KMs per tank...

EDIT - I got 601 KMs on a tank once. That was pretty cool...

Most gas stations switch to oxygenated gasoline during the winter months to help reduce carbon monoxide buildup during the cold months, a side effect of this is decreased mileage.

I actually get better mileage when driving conditions suck because I drive in winter mode (2nd gear starts) and drive generally slower.

O really? didn't know that. Petro has their Winter Gas all year long so does that mean it's always oxygenated?

I heard you lose a cup of gas every minute your car is idle. Not sure how true that is, heard it when I was younger.
I know you don't smoke weed. I know this. But I'm gonna git you high today. 'cause it's Friday, you ain't got no job, and you ain't got shit to do!

Actually guys the reason why you dont get as good of millage in the winter time as you do in the summer time is:
1: letting it sit and warm up for 5 - 15 min on those cold mornings.
2: your usually running your cars heat full blast when it gets really cold outside. My car will even run the AC to demumidify the air in my car so you dont get that shit all over the windows... Your engine does work alot harder in the winter then it does in the summer boys....

AC is only on when your controls are on 'defrost'...but that's a lot of the time too. Of course if you turn it on also...haha

Maybe a little, like 30-40km's less.
I plug my car in with a timer. If I have to warm up the car, 3-5minutes max, anything more is just a waste of gas.

Yah I got 750kms coming home from Vancouver! I didn't know my car can do that

Anyway.....If its really cold out, like the deep freeze we just had I only get about 400km/tank maxed! The car is always idling getting warmed up etc....

In the winter so far I have noticed a decrease of about 50-65kms per tank of gas for city driving. Winter highway driving I didn't notice as much of a decrease.

I know its because I let my car warm up after work and school for atleast 10 minutes, but its worth it to me

I still do I just don't let it idle as long as I would say after work or school.
