I was just wondering whether you will need a big brake kit w/ 18" wheels on a G2 Integra?! Ive heard both sides of the story and am wondering what do you guys think?!
Thanx! Im sure this may help others on the forum!

if your heavily modded then it might be a good investment, but if your pretty much stock, you wont need a big brake kit.
if its on a street driven car, 18's only need big brakes for looks.
what do u mean heavily modded?
like im planning kit and wheels for exterior and for performance some internals plus bolt on's is already done! im only askin cuz 1000+ bux for a big brake kit is definatley not in the buget but if it will cause a BIG problem then maybe 17" is the right choice...haha
my buddy reggie told me that he is having problems w/ his stopping and he has RH CP-8's on his FULL BLOWN show car... so i was juss wondering
then he needs better brake pads.
so then i guess prblem solved or could my buddy have a point?!Originally posted by jdmakkord

if its only for looks then problem solved.. 18" is the way to go!
ya its just for looks mostly
not necesserily.Originally posted by chrisgushue

Big brakes don't heat up as fast as regular brakes, so if you won't experience brake fade on the track. It also helps a bit in stopping distance too (but its mostly the pads and rotors)
if you're going for show you don't really need it.
its the opposite renny. Who wants 18's with puny little rotors???
You have to fill that gap thats left there.
id find some big brakes to fill up the gap in the 18s...its also nice to have a good set of brakes too
its a waste if the engine for your teg' is bone stock..
even with an intake..exhaust..etc minor mods u wouildn't need big brakes
i would think its over kill
if u put in a turbo then it becomes usefull
if u're jus goin for the looks, thats an expensive investment!!
well he was asking if he needed it, and it's not 100% necessary for show you know? only if you're tracking the car is it really necessary... i personally would love a big brake upgrade... but then my damn slicks wont fit!!Originally posted by jdmakkord

or better yet, all the guys running 18's with drum brakes in the rear!!!!
Good set of brakes is useless if you don't have good tires. Tires are more important than good brakes.its also nice to have a good set of brakes too
those guys are soooooo doooooope!!Originally posted by jdmakkord

1. You won't need a big brake kit unless you have have major power mods on your car, which ultimately needs the added braking power to stop the vehicle.
2. You would also want to consider getting a big brake kit if you were considering tracking your car on numerous occasions because track racing conditions calls for excessive strain on the braking system over a prolong period. With factory brakes you will experience brake fade when the braking system heats up.
3. Having 17" or 18" rims is still not the reason to get a big brake kit in my opinion. It is not a necessary thing to get (meaning it is not a vital addition to the performance of your car for increasing your safety, that is until you have substantially increased your engine's performance) Another drawback is that if you have an increased rotor size, you will also need to realize that your factory rims may now not fit, thus you will have to use a larger diameter size wheel through all seasons of the year. Ultimately, you will be paying more money for tires as well.
Now for the definition of a big brake kit. There are two type of kits available. (1) A larger rotor kit which can incorporate the factory brake calipers, and (2) a full on performance brake package which includes larger rotors and 4, 6, 8, or 10 piston calipers. I don't think option (1) will get up into the $1000 plus range, but option (2) can easily be above and beyond that price.
If you want a little better braking power, get some performance brake fluid DOT4-5. Get a set of performance pads and call it a day.
I upgraded to a 4 piston, 30mm big brake kit. But Hey I added 100Whp and still climbing, so i need it. I have 18's too. Still does not fill it IMO.
Braking is all about the TIRES, not the rotors/pads/calipers.

I disagree, it's not that tires dont make a difference, they do, but a high performance brake system will make you stop faster over a set of new tires hands down.Originally posted by kenny
