    Default colder spark plugs

put one step colder plugs in today(ngk bkr7e) and set the gap to 0.035". it runs much better on boost. before it was kind of rough... now its all smooth .

The coldness of the plug does not effect idle in a good way, it's the opposite. Your plugs operate best at a specific warm temperature. The whole thing about cold plugs with a turbo car your plugs is it can get too hot and get out of the happy temperature or cause preignition in which the plug gets so hot it ignites the fuel from heat alone without the spark.

Your idle probly improved because of new plugs, or properly gapped plugs.

i think i worded the first post poorly. the idle didn't change really. what i meant was it runs better on boost which is above 3000rpm.

wouldn't that indicate that you have having issues with detonation

No, it would indicate that his stock plugs is not dissipating heat well enough under forced induction.

Plugs that are too cold == misfires + carbon buildup on plugs, so make sure you choose the proper heat range.

i just went one stage colder than stock so it should be ok. on boost it feels a lot more smooth compared to stock heat range.

tulit - part number is 6097 for the bkr7e. i bought mine from napa... $1.50 a plug. if you need a set let me know cause i bought all the ones they have in stock in calgary.... 20 plugs(2 boxes) should last me a few years.

    Hahaha...plug whore!

6-7's are average for turbo cars.

    FYI some RX7's use 10-12's....

I bought my plugs, four months ago from a parts store.

I special ordered all the BRK7E, back then. I think they found like 16 of them so I bought them.

I also have three sets of Zex plugs.

Can't have enough plugs when your running the bottle!!!
