    Default Nurburgring lap record beaten

For street legal cars, that is. A modified 996 GT2 smoked the Donkervoot somehow. Honestly, last year if someone told me that a 996 would beat that tiny Donkervoort around the Ring I would laugh! This sounds so unlikely, but it's still pretty amazing. The lap time was 7:15.63 minutes, which is an amazing lap.

A Porsche GT2 modified by the clever people at EDO Competition clocked a time of 7:15.63 on the 4th of August.

    Engine: Watercooled 996 GT2 3.6l
    Power: 612 Hp @ 6.790rpm
    Torque: 785 Nm @ 4.300rpm

    Acceleration:
    0 - 100 km/h in about 3,5 s
    0 - 200 km/h in about 9,5 s
    0 - 300 km/h in about 22,5 s

It's a race car that got some street plates .

For all intents and purposes it was a racecar which happened to have managed to obtain street papers. It might have been fast for a 'streetcar' record but seeing as it's similar spec to the Alzen car it's really not that fast a lap for a 'race car'.

The driving standard is not really acceptable for Touristenfahrten.

The car and record attempt will be featured in the upcoming Sport Auto.

Not like the Donkervoort was really practical though

my guess is that with all the line changes he had to do to avoid traffic, he very easily could have had another 5-10sec off the lap time, man you can really hear that dog box, slappin the gears in place eh...

lol! Yeah anyways bikes have a ton less traction through corners and wouldn't be anywhere near a race car's time on a track like this.

    BTW the Donkervoort's lap was a 7:18.

Bikes aren't suited for places like the ring. Lots of bumps, lots of long power straights (bikes aren't really much faster than cars over 200km/h), and zero run off. The lap record for a bike is like 7:50. Most riders are happy to break past the 9min barrier, and those are the guys that risk their lives. About 1 death a week there, mostly from the crazy bike dudes.

how safe is that to have traffic on the track when your trying to set a record going over 150km?

Djayz: street legal cars can do a lap for 14 euros or something like that, or get a day pass for ~70 euros (may have changed since I talked to my buddy in England). Usually only happens on weekends. All other times car companies hire the track for car testing, or there is some kind of race going on, or some billionaire has hired the track as his private playground (Richard Branson reportedly does this) for a day.

It looks like its getting rough out there, might be time for some maintenance.
