The "architect" doesnt detail how the building/ building envelope works... hence the comment "we make it work". I make it work. You draw the building with a fat marker and then i "make it work".Originally posted by dezinr
Spoken like a true technologist. And they say we architects have egos. I beg to differ based on that comment!!
However, I have good friends who are technologists and we are able to work well together and don't put down one another so I guess there always has to be one that ruins it for the rest. Good on you for doing that!
BTW - I'm an Intern Architect.
4 Year Undergrad - 3 Year Master's Degree
6 Years in the profession (Last 5 in Calgary)
I'm not putting down how architects cant draw buildings that even remotely work or are economical at all, thats a whole other issue
I am a chemist at a oilfield chemical company. We provide solutions to problems producers have in oil and gas production. I specialize in paraffin and asphaltene problems. I will probably start dealing with / helping with sulphide treatment as well soon.

That's a HUGE pet peeve of mine. People who are technicians that call themselves engineers or doctors. As well as people who say "pre-law", "pre-med"... hey if you put it that way, even high school dropouts can pre-med/law!Originally posted by gpomp

I think you need to let some air out of your head man and lower your ego! Maybe that's how the architects you work with are but our firm 90% of the architects are registered. We do in most cases our own working drawings and contract administration as well as all the details along with reviewing and revising all the consultants work.Originally posted by 88CRX

I understand you attitude as this is Calgary...but in most other cities and abroad architects design as well as do what you claim only you can do!!!

I also see that you are only 22 so when you get some more experience in life and understand the design profession then I think you will be ready to comment on what it is Architects do. It's a wonder our city and the buildings look so drab....no one appreciates design. It's sad though all the tecnologists I work with and have worked with were great and their is a mutual respect and it takes one person to give them a bad image....good on you for that.Originally posted by 88CRX

lol I had a friend a couple years ago with nothing to do so he enrolled in uni., took the bare minimum of whatever to pass the time and then told girls at bars (and everyone else he met) he was in pre-med! And he meant it, to him it was NOT a joke. It was sooooo funny when he'd pull that shit on someone actually in medical school or that was actually trying to get in. They'd ask him what he was taking etc. and the resulting humiliation - classic! If I could have recorded the conversation between him and the hot chick at the bar he was trying to impress that was in her 3rd year....Originally posted by xrayvsn
