Combine proper automated driving with an "uberpool" type app for ride sharing, and trips to Edmonton will become much more affordable and relaxing.

There is nothing relaxing about going to Edmonton.

What a noob. Speeding through Ponoka. Guaranteed ticket right there.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was possible. Highway 2 is super easy for lane keep systems, so throwing on a nag defeat would easily accomplish this.

You guys don't sleep while driving on the QEII to Edmonton?
If they weren't complete asses about this, no one would have noticed. Setting your cruise to 140 is idiotic.
This also happened in Knight Rider

80s yo ...... I want a turbo cruise button in my future FSD car.
Also, why cant the Tesla talk to you like KITT ?
LoL at that line "he's a hardcore alky"!!
Pretty much this, slap some shades on and go for a power nap. But that's not good enough for these guys, they felt the need to recline all the way back to hit that deep REM sleep at 150km/hr. I don't blame them though, it can be tough keeping awake while driving to Edmonton cause the drive can be incredibly boring. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The only way I would ever try this is if
a) it was a clear calm day
b) low traffic
c) Ive done the trip 6 times already on auto pilot (ie. I know where the autopilot fails on a specific section of road) and was confident in it
d) wake up alarm after 1/2 hr or so
e) I would be in serious shit if I didn't get to the place in time
However, Tesla auto cruise has repeatedly demonstrated that it does not always sense vehicles stopped partially in your lane - so that is a big risk.
I have 100% took a nap while driving on the way back from Edmonton about three years ago. I guess GM didn't include active monitoring on my 2008 HHR, because I only woke up after hitting a few of the fence posts and skittering across to the opposite side of the highway. They really need to relabel it as "SPEED" control...

So more beyond armchair activism at work again?
In 2010 I told my coworkers at a Lidar mapping company that by 2020 we could be driving across the prairies without humans (or humans optional) - in warm and dry conditions.
We still cant - boggles the mind at the lack of progress. I would have expected that snow/rain etc. would have taken another 10 years to solve.
The only real solution is smart roads - embedded C/L and edge of pavement, sensors.
It’s more regulations at this point. There’s no doubt that Waymo could do it effectively, and Tesla doing it with a few sketchy moments. Regulations won’t allow it still. The technology for highway travel is already there. The tough cases is in city driving. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I more surprised that big tech like amazon/apple etc. never fully embraced it. The technology - for even auto driving in OPTIMAL conditions - is not there yet in 2020.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Teslas are good but they still crash into objects - especially ones partially in your lane.
However, what I would like to see is the accident rate for Teslas in AP mode vs. non AP mode.
That’s why I said some sketch moments for Tesla. Tesla does publish that information, at least at the beginning of the year when I was following them a little more. I dunno how valid that data is though as AP only works in ideal conditions which are typically less accident prone while the non AP data is everywhere else including off limits to AP areas. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Waymo doesn’t seem to have the problems that Tesla has as it relies on lidar to paint a better picture of its surroundings. To date, no waymos running into stopped cars. Tesla’s issues running into stopped cars affect every radar cruise control system that doesn’t have Lidar.
Apple was doing some work there but they’re pretty secretive. Amazon just bought zoox which had some incredible demos of their tech.
