I bought a 2013 Mini GP actually. I was the second highest bidder but the highest bidder flaked, bought the car privately after the auction from the seller directly for about $1500CAD less than I was willing to bid on BAT.
@Twin_Cam_Turbo - did you bring in your GP from the US? Was it during COVID? I've got my eye on a car on BAT, but I'm not sure how much of a pain it will be to bring it into Canada (it's RIV compliant) with the shipping etc. during COVID.

No my car was in Edmonton, which is why I got it so cheap most likely.

Does the border being closed really affect anything regarding buying a car?

Nothing stopping you from flying down and bringing it back, nor from a logistics service from bringing it to you here?

Get it trucked here. Border wide open for that without hassle.

More so on the selling angle, tempted to put my car up but watching the comments on Canadian based cars shows how little research potential bidders are willing to do with the border no land accessible

Selling a Canadian car on BAT is always going to be an uphill battle. I’d just assume you need to eat the cost of repatriation and transport in your expectations. Regardless of the pandemic.

Depends on what vehicle you're putting up there.

Any beyond ballers want to gamble? i feel like this could be flipped on BAT just seeing past auctions & the dollar conversion.

Disagree; pick up truck market =/= BaT (i.e. collector/hobby/race car) market

I would assume the owner of that car is aware of BaT and would probably be doing this if it was the best course of action.

BAT adds a lot of dilutives and complication to a transaction versus Kijiji.

If someone wants to arb BAT and Kijiji on their own time that’s their prerogative.

    The BaT angle is interesting.

I have three originally-sold-in-the-US cars that will eventually go on there. I assume bringing a vehicle back to the states in that circumstance is much easier than importing a Canadian-sold vehicle.
@finboy - you could just offer to take care of the import process for the buyer?

1st gen camaro's look terrible without the rear spoiler IMO.

Seeing how you could potentially sell for 100K+ USD would be tempting. Do you have yours on the road yet? You have to at least get some seat time this year before getting rid of it haha.

I don’t know that I would want to deal with the whole process, but taking care of some of the documentation could help things.

I think the big hurdles are
-prove title and explain how that works to Americans
-prove all emissions items are in place
-secure letters from American division of manufacturer that car is legal for us market

Who knows, my car is worth *maybe* 15k in canada on a good day, that BAT tax would likely net another 5-8k if it was in the US, but it seems like that Canadian barrier might be a hard one for buyers to get over.

Don't forget that after the vehicle has been imported to Canada, it's a Canadian car. To bring it back into the states, the buyer would need to pay tax on it. This happened to my BIL that moved up here, imported his car, then wound up selling it in canada before he moved back down a year later to avoid paying tax on it each time he crossed the border
