I looked at the 1070 FTW but it uses about 50% more power and requires a second 8-pin connector. Is that just because of the higher OC?
These threads are scaring me a little bit:

EDIT: Reading MemoryExpress' IPR I see this WTF:
I think I just lost quite a bit of respect for them.If you were to replace a component such as a video card without IPR you could pay between $100 and $300 for a replacement card and an additional $100 for a two hour service fee to install it.

I picked up the Asus 1070 O8G card yesterday. Was able to PM it. I built a new system with the 550D case, it's awesome.Originally posted by Mitsu3000gt
None yet - Memex hasn't had 1070 stock on the cards I want for 1-2 weeks now.
I am debating between the EVGA 1070 ($569) and the EVGA 1070 SC Edition ($599). EVGA seems to make the quietest version of this card, one of the coolest temperature-wise, and probably has the best customer support. Prices are on the cheap side of the spectrum too.
The 1060 is in the back of my mind still, but I think the extra performance and 2GB ram is worth the $200 premium considering how long I keep graphics cards for.
The 550D has been my go-to case for years. I have yet to find anything better for quality and silence. Glad you're enjoying it too. It used to be around $120 now it's $200.Originally posted by J.M.

How good was your price match? Asus customer service scares me but if there was a huge price difference I might be persuaded. Too bad memex's uber price beat blows now It's basically just a match.
^^^
Yeah I got the case on sale, last one too.
My PM was alright.. I found it listed for $602 on Direct Canada yesterday morning but by the time I got to the store the price jumped up and it sold out. Was still able to get the PM for the new price and a few bucks off lol
The $599 Asus 1070 is listed for $579 on DC and newegg. With the MemEx price beat it's around $577.
The EVGA $599 1070 SC is listed for $588 on DC. MemEx PM brings it down to around $587.

Thanks - I'm probably going to go with the EVGA SC.
Unfortunately my dishwasher just broke so the video card might have to wait a couple weeks haha.
Anyone know why this card is so cheap? Is it just a founders card with a custom cooler like the EVGA's?

Reading about coil whine makes me not want to buy any of these cards haha, but I will have to play the lottery it seems.
1060's STILL not in stock, 1070's finally coming in stock.
^^I think evga just likes to have a wider range of offerings. They have some of the lower priced 1080s also, just 100 models of each card it seems.
It's an Asus though, unless I am misunderstanding you.Originally posted by schocker

There are way too many models to choose from haha. Now there is a full line of 1070's with the founders-style cooling fan as well.
This is the one I want but there is a million threads about coil whine, and I read it is not actually a custom card, but rather a founders card with a custom cooler (not sure if that's bad or not but people seem to look down upon it):

The MSI card is well regarded, but it has 1/3 the warranty and is the most expensive.

Whoops I can't read. I think there is always a chance of coil whine, but I think you should be able to exchange one for one that doesn't? I think for my next card I will be trying EVGA as I have heard the best things about them though I have never had issues with my history of Asus, MSI, Gigabyte.
Looks like Direct Canada has the EVGA 1070 SC for $579, I will probably price beat that at Memex ($599) and roll the dice on coil whine. I have 7 days to swap it out I guess.
What are you guys using for monitors?
I have an LG ultrawide but it turns out the 2016 version of this monitor has triple the input lag of the previous one, so it went from 1 frame to over 3. Not usable for the games I play so I'm looking to replace it with something else.
I would like to stay ultrawide if I can but most of them are laggy or cost like $1,300+ so I might dual screen with the ultra-wide and a normal 1080p 24" monitor
The good monitors are all $$$ now. I have been looking at the 27" acer predator gsync 1440p and it is still $950. The utlrawide version is 34" and $1700
I use a 27" NEC PA271W, it probably isn't great for gaming, but I need it for photo editing. I have found that any game requiring flawless lag (FPS games mostly) need to deal with server latency issues long before it would be worth it to get a gaming specific monitor. If there is a delay between my click and the shot already, it doesn't matter what monitor I have haha.
I have this monitor, it rocks.Originally posted by schocker

^^ You have the largest computer case I have ever seen
Yeah it is enormous, great for when I eventually do custom water cooling.
I brought it to a friend's place for a lan party and used it as a desk for my monitor a few weeks back. Thermaltake x9 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7SeDud6ZRg
I might actually do a desk case instead at some point.
If anyone is looking for a prebuilt machine, just ended up buying an Alienware Rig from Dell at what I think is a really good price:

-$400 for sale price
-$150 using coupon code $150OFF$1699PC
-$82.50 for EPP discount
-$166.25 for ebates discount
Came out to just under $1500 before taxes, which is a bit cheaper than getting all the individual components plus the case / power supply design is pretty neat:

Go Flames!
Seems like a pretty good buy, just needs 2-4X more RAM.
What motherboard?
Who actually makes the power supply and SSD?
