Does the event really need to be sanctioned? The article states the commission didn't even know about UFC:83 last time they were in Montreal. It was only the highest attended event in the UFC's history lol.
Fuck em, sounds like a bunch of extortionists trying to real in some cash based on past success.

Bad news for ufc 97! Really hope this is just a sad and shameless scam by the Montreal guys to extort money from the UFC.
If not, then I hope they relocate the event to Calgary!
Are they complete morons?
It took long enough for it to come to Canada...now they pull this shit...
sounds more like them looking the other way when GSP fought and now being anal when no quebecers are on the card.

It's all the Bloc Québécois fault I tell you!
according to matt serra....they made that announcement whilst drinking a quality bottle of red wine...
Classic idiot policy-makers and bureaucrats trying to make a name for themselves and keep themselves employed. Reminds me of some idiot guy in Toronto who tried to make a big shit about Eminem or Marilyn Manson or something --- just another ass trying to 'be that guy' who tried to steal the thunder from something popular.Originally posted by Wildcat

Like how Lesnar deserved his shot at Couture? White doesnt go for who deserves a shot, he goes for the $ match. Im suprised he doesnt throw Penn, Hughes and GSP in a triple threat matchOriginally posted by nightfx
Won't happen. People like Alves/Florian need their chance at the title.
GSP vs Penn III wouldn't generate nearly as much $ as before for obvious reasons... especially right after the beating GSP gave Penn, even Dana White knows that a rematch would be stupid right now.Originally posted by gerrycurl21

Besides, Penn vs Florian & GSP vs Alves hopefully both on UFC 100 would be huge $$.
, this is absolutely retardedOriginally posted by Wildcat

With only 3 MMA fights under his belt, sure a lot of people thought it was too soon for a title shot, but with the way the Heavyweight title was split up, couture v.s. lesnar made sense for a lot of reasons. He did win after all.Originally posted by gerrycurl21

With that being said, I hope Mir catches Brock with another submission and we have a True Champion again

The Heavyweight division is a different story from every other division in the UFC. There's maybe like 5 or 6 UFC fighters total that are even capable of being HW champ.Originally posted by gerrycurl21

, Ive always thought they should even split the Division up, maybe up to anywhere from 225-240lbs, then a "super heavyweight" up to the current 265 or even 275+.Originally posted by PGTze

It would give the smaller heavyweights a chance, instead of being against the larger guys like Mir, Lesnar etc..

That's not possible, considering how thin the division already is within the ufc, even if ufc had all the heavy weights it's still no where near enough talent to split the HW's
UFC 97's all going ahead as normal. The montreal comission have agreed to let it take place with full rules except for foot stomps....which apprently is same as the last event. Story here
