Tried to find a thread for this, only found an old reference in another thread:
This story ended up being pretty crazy. As seen in the original article, the original investigation had no charges being laid. The parents were obviously upset and demanded charges. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

This was all over my facebook feed last year (I have lots of friends from Bowness growing up), calling out cops for not doing their jobs, and even saying they were racist (the dad is black). Under pressure, the cops filed charges against the driver. Careless driving, and operating without insurance.

Fast forward to this week, it went to trial. Operating without insurance was dropped before trial start, she didn't have her papers but was in fact insured. Today, after witnesses testified to exactly what was said in the first investigation, in that she stopped and was waved through, prosecution dropped the careless driving charge.

The family is still trying to sue the driver in civil court. I'm disappointed that the system totally fucked over the driver here over public pressure that really wasn't warranted or justified. Not only did she have to deal with the emotional impact of killing a 4 year old girl in an unfortunate accident, but she has to deal with the financial fallout of legal costs. I seriously hope this isn't the norm.
