I was at city hall this morning in the development department and had an interesting talk with the guy helping me because i was surprirsed at how busy they were.
He says 2016 they issued more new business license then the last 3 years, and this year is easily beating last year and building and development permits are very high.
And good malls will aleays be around. Been to chinnok lately?
Tier 1 will be around. We can probably keep supporting 1 per quadrant (Chinook, Sunridge, South Centre, Market). But everything else will die or turn into outdoor/drive up malls or mixed used redevelopment. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
But if you look at Chinook and Market, they are having a tough time filling the space Target vacated.

Funny you say this, i was at northland bb sunday and decided to go out to the mall and that place was so depressing, over 50% vacancy for sure and most of the businesses that were there werent your run of the mill stores. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Same for my family, it sounds lame but for us we consider it a pretty fun time. Online shopping is huge but it will never replace malls, people like to feel and try things on and most importantly instant gratification lolThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I get that brick and mortar shops are on the decline but I reckon that there will always be a market for people wanting to walk around and spend a few hours going store to store shopping. There is an enjoyment factor and practicality factor for stuff that is risky to buy online like clothes, sports equipment and big ticket electronics. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. parents need a place to let their kids roam freely
They already do that at Asian Buffet (Bonaventure Drive SE) everytime I go there. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I'm guessing most people on here are around middle aged and busy with work and family. Malls are great for kids, teens, and the 80+ crowd.
60+, Once it's sub-zero outside, indoor mall turn into seniors exercise room. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Market Mall turned theirs into a Sporting Life, Chinook is turning theirs into a Saks Fifth Ave. I will however say that chinook has quite a few vacant retail spaces in it. Jewelry store on the lower level is closing, kids version of LuluLemon closed, etc. I don't think we will see another Chinook expansion for a long time. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Over staffing isn't organized efficiently (can be wrinkled out with good management). Being that it's owned by Cineplex (and or whomever buys them out), I'd say this location can stay open for 6 years. As a "business", I think it'll slow down in 2.5 yrs. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Games are brand new, but since I'm old as balls (I'd say quarter life crisis as per speedog standards), just didn't have that skeet ball spitting out physical tickets, EasyStreet/Chuck e Cheese token machine feel (uses wrist bands with RFID/wifi digit tracking; can't wait till some 13yo darkwebs it and banks a 1,000,000 credit payout for himself and his superfriends)
Video games finishes so quick (not what I remembered), it's like you shoot for 30 seconds, boom you're dead. Those ball drop for tickets (digit tickets), are literraly scan your wrist band once, press a button ONCE, boom you're done.
If you're a 80's baby, don't expect: Skeet ball, wide selection of token drop/swipe thingys (where you roll ONE token to a sweeper, and it'll sweep a few tokens down the hatch, and a shitload of tickets spit out), affordable redeemable goodies (i.e. candies, erasers, cheesy sunglasses) it's either 2-4 items in the lower end $5-10 spending range or prizes you gotta spend $100 or hit some ticket jackpot.
Nonetheless, awesome modern machines, fits the era we live in. Expect 14yo boys dressed in skin tight jeans whipping your ass on those crazy dance platform machines, or those Asians hogging the 3 screen racing simulators where they've been practicing at home nightly. I suppose kinda like a gambler practicing on his home slot before heading out to the casino.

Surely Deerfoot mall will be quite busy once its renovation is complete. Where do NE people even shop - sunridge mall has nothing on the malls in the rest of the city.
Skeet ball and skee ball are two very different things..
DOES ANYONE NEED A GO-JUICE?
Oh man... good catch, just Googled oops. lol *Skee-ballThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
