Any idea how much a new srt-4 engine can be bought for (if that's even possible - I have no idea if there are crate srt-4s or not)
Also, anybody know if an SRT-4 engine can be converted to carb

Now why would you convert to carb...thats kind of silly isnt it? Usually thats a common thing with old hotrodders i find, is try to change everything to carb cuz its "easier". Bah, ppl just find efi overwhelming...but its so damn simple.
i bet they sell crate engines, call a mopar dealer
Don't understand fuel injection; carb is where it's at fooOriginally posted by sr20s14zenki

....besides, carb in a 1000lb car is just cool
Yah, now imagine having a 1000lb car with a mopar stage 3 upgrade on the engine running on a standalone....mmmmmmm over 400 hp
i find carbs are WAY to finnicky, and you always gotta retune the damn things if you change altitude and what not...
An 85 hp 4 cyl isn't really cool, though...and while it isn't impossible to turbo a carbed motor, its pretty much as complicated (or moreso) as any EFI setupOriginally posted by 2EFNFAST

There are simple efi systems out there that make life easier, like SDS (http://www.sdsefi.com, local company too)
and this is just as cool as any carb, in my opinion
Meh, when your dad builds custom efi systems (hooray for me!) carbed engines just seem useless for anything high performance.
Still at square 1 though - can't find any places online that sell them to get an idea on pricing
I must be sucking at teh googling tonight
PM Z_Fan. Or phone Eastside Dodge's parts department and ask for Phil. If anybody knows, they will. Pretty sure a new short block is about $1700.
Most guys that need to replace their engine grab one out of a junked PT Cruiser though.
Thanks for the link - when I looked on fleabay yesyerday I only saw 2 or 3 used ones.Originally posted by anothers10

You're joking about converting a modern turbocharged four banger to carburetion, right?
EFI isn't that complicated, especially if someone has already done it. There are some extremely good books on EFI out there as well as homebrew standalone ECUs with large communities - a bunch of people have Megasquirted SRT-4s before and share their setup freely.

I don't know why you want a carb so bad. I am going to suggest sticking with EFI also.
Beyond's Most Wanted
Howell Automotive in the states used to sell them - you'd be retrofitting the engine because I believe the crate is also an EFI setup and like everyone else has mentioned, there are plenty of kits out there that will let you tinker with it just like a carb. I had a look at their website and the crates aren't on there now so it probably wouldn't hurt to call them.

Thanks, but I ended up buying a superlite coupe - uses a V8. Can get a mangly 700hp out of it quite easily
Did you actually order one? Do you have the importation/regulations thing solved? Or is this going to be a track only machine?Originally posted by 2EFNFAST

Congrats! I would love to do one up but I would throw a 4 rotor into it instead of that lunk of a V8. How are you going to get it registered? Transport Canada is really bitchy about kit cars. I know that Factory Five has a deal with them to allow their cars (minus some key parts) but I don't believe that RCR has the same deal in place.Originally posted by 2EFNFAST
