    Default Yay Neon Dyno Day

We had an SRT-4 dyno day this past weekend @ Apex up in Edmonton. The star of the show was a Stage 3 car with boltons putting down ~398 WHP and ~412 WTQ. It was pretty slick. He was having som trouble holding High Octane mode. It seems with Stage 3 guys need to run like 104 octane to hold it properly

Since the last dyno, I got Stage 2 and got rid of the Stage 1. Here is the before and after dynos. As you can see the Stage 2 definitely got me some torque, but my HP isn't as good as I wanted. I think the stock dp / cat are costing me some power. My friend datalogged a few Stage 2 cars and mine was pulling the most timing.

Note - the blue run is Stage 2. It looks like some lag, but it's just the dyno operator floored it later than the Stage 1 run. The jagged upper end on the Stage 2 run shows the ECU is fooling with things. Not to mention she's running a tad rich.

Another interesting thing my friend logged, with his upgraded IC his intake temps were as much as 50 degrees cooler.

Thanks asshole. Did I mention there was a modded 02 GT at the dyno day that put out less hp and torque than me? Did I also mention I was one of the less powerful SRT-4's?

You know I respect all cars, even Mustangs. My bro had a 2000 GT and it was a fun car. It was also less reliable, slower and poorer built than my SRT-4.

Also let me tell you at Bud park the Mustang guys avoid the SRT-4s like you would not believe. I was the slowest SRT-4 there on Friday and the only one who didn't break into the 13's. Even I beat a few Stangs up.

I should also say I know my car isn't the fastest or most powerful, that's not the point of my post. However your comment indirectly is offensive to most of the sport compacts on this site.

Point Blank : If I wanted a Mustang, I'd have one.

My buddy fidele went to that, he sad he just got stage 1 and he put down 264 hp and 290 tq, and they could'nt figure out why he was running so rich when srt 4's usually run lean. He invited me to go but i was in Whistler but I wnna go next year sounds like a good deal, but is it only srt' 4's or do other cars show up to and how many

The car runs uber rich, much more so with Stage 2. It's more or less done that way for longevity purposes which is ok with me. The one bad thing is I think I've clogged my cat. That's ok because it will be gone soon.

There are a couple of way of leaning it out but I'm not willing to use a MAP clamp (you can't use stock boost control). Some guys have also used an SAFC to pull fuel out. But again, I'm VERY much sticking with stock type controls.

There is a guy selling ported stock turbos, which are said to give about 20 hp / tq. This should also lean things out a bit as the flow is upped a bit. I might look into one as they look stock.

Love the video, and soo true. Sure you can run 500hp on one of those........but only for one run. I've heard nothing but bad things about the internals holding up on those things. My buddy works as a mechanic for dodge and he says they get tons of srt-4s with blown engines coming in. Sure they are fast and cheap, but cheap is the operative word, your obviously not buying top of the line internals

oh yeah, they'll make some nice power for sure...and some of them might hold up to it for a while...but bottom line is that factory built is about cost savings, not about building to take 30psi.
not saying every neon with a "stage 2" kit on it is about to blow up, just saying that an SRT-4 is just like every other turbo car on the market...it's easy to increase power levels to a point, a little tinker here, an increase in boost there and you're hittin some good numbers for hp, but people fail to recognize that SRT-4's have the same down fall from doing that as every other car on the market...you're putting a lot of extra strain on a motor that was simply not designed to do it...it won't blow up right away, but give it a year and components will probably start to fail if you're baggin on it and trying to race every mustang you see, cus let's face it, we're in redneck country, there's a lot of mustangs.
