I've been stupid and ignored the oil warning light thinking I could get home and fill up the oil. Didn't happen and the car broke down. I filled up the oil and got the car starting again and the next day my partner put more oil in, too much oil in fact. I am getting a lot of smoke coming out of the exhuast now especially in low gear. There was a lot of smoke in the hour before the car broke down.

I know running out of oil is very bad but is it possible that there is just too much oil in at the moment? The car seems to be running fine apart from the excessive smoke at times.
