    Default Paypal/credit card problem

Well I bought an item off ebay in USD.

I paid for the item through paypal.

My item was apparently stolen from the store, and my payment has been refunded.

However, due to differnet exchange rates being used, I have lost about $14 in the process.

    Anything I can do?

I emailed paypal about it but haven't heard back from them yet.

I'd let it go. Atleast they were able to get you some of your money back instead of none. What's $14?? Two and a half value meals at McDonald's? Eat at home for the next couple of days to make up for your losses. It could've been a lot worse.

    Most likely a lost effort...

Interest rates fluctuate, that is what they can use to argue for their benefit. What the interest rate was when you purchased the item is not necessarily the interest rate today...

Not much you can do, you are at the mercy of the currency exchange rates.

It'll probably have to go down in the books as an exchange loss of $14 and I guess Paypal gets an exchange gain of $14.

Maybe next time it'll be the other way around.

Try emailing the company/ people you bought from.
Bitch to them that you were expecting the product you bought from them, and not a refund minus $14. Or at least give you some discount if you can buy the same item or something else from them later on.

I bought something from someone through paypal, but he wasn't set up for credit cards. So when I sent him a money order instead, he gave me a discount cuz he did specify that he didn't accept cc on paypal

Here is the response I got from them. I lost $60 in my transaction. I bought HID but I have decided to sell my car for and Audi A4. I paid $701. My refund was $639. Part of the problem is that the Canadian dollar keeps getting stronger. If I buy the same HID kit today, it would only cost me $650!

    Dear Bernard,

    Thank you for contacting PayPal.

The exchange rate will be calculated anytime funds are converted from
one currency to another. This includes anytime payments are sent,
refunded, denied, or cancelled. The rate PayPal presents includes a
small risk factor as well as a currency conversion fee. For this
reason, when funds are credited to your credit card, the amount that is
credited to the card may be different than the amount sent from the
    card.

    · The exchange rate is a variable rate that may fluctuate from day
    to day.
    · If the exchange rate on the day the funds were sent is different
than the exchange rate on the day the funds were credited, there will
be a difference in the amounts.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us
    again.

    Sincerely,
    Richetta
