Default Yet Another Important Insurance Question

If I get into an accident and i'm at fault, but i'm driving another person's vehicle, does that person's insurance cover the damage? Any supporting links would be appreciated.

    Yes
Most policies carry something called 'uninsured motorist'

I imagine your friend would get screwed and your insurance would get screwed.....not sure how the liability would work in that case though

Uninsured motorist policy means that you are covered if someone hits you and they are uninsured...but I don't know if that means i'd be covered if I had an accident with a friends car for example.

I've heard that in this scenario, it's covered by buddy's insurance, but they drop the policyholder soon after Why don't you just ask your agent???

    Q. What is uninsured motorist coverage?

    A. Uninsured motorist coverage protects an insured if he/she is involved in an accident with a driver who has no insurance. The uninsured motorist carrier will pay its insureds damages as if they had provided insurance for the uninsured driver. A variation of uninsured motorist coverage is under-insured coverage. This type of coverage will provide benefits for losses that exceed the liability coverage limits of the other driver.

Does this apply? It says that the uninsured motorist carrier will pay its insured's damages as if they provided insurance for the uninsured driver. I think this is what it means.

    Here's some more interesting info...

    Q. What happens if an owner or operator of a car has no insurance?

    A. The primary responsibility for automobile insurance falls upon the owner of the vehicle. An insured owner can allow an uninsured driver to operate his vehicle; the owners insurance will cover a loss arising out of the drivers permitted use. An exception to this rule arises if the driver is a member of the owners household or is a regular user of the vehicle who is not named in the policy of insurance. If an uninsured driver is involved in an accident or is stopped for a traffic violation, a citation will ordinarily be given for failure to have auto insurance in force. The penalty for operating a vehicle without insurance may include license suspension or revocation.

Just make sure you don't live with the buddy who lends you his car.
