Default Good price for tenant insurance?

I know it's fairly cheap, but who here feels they have a great deal going for their tenant insurance ?

Any experience with actually dealing with your insurance company would be appreciated as well. That's probably more important than getting the lowest price.
I used to have a travel thread on Beyond. I used to be somebody.

'Also have TD/Meloche , and for their minimum coverage I pay around $13-15/mo. (was just shy of $200 for the year iirc). I've also even had one claim 2yr prior.

Just go with whoever you have insurance with already. Mine is roughly $10/mth for $30,000.

Most insurance companies will give you a multi-line rate if you have insurance with them. Talk to whoever insures your vehicle and see if there is a discount to be had for more than one type of insurance.

is tenant insurance just for your possessions in the apartment or for damage done to the apartment too? because 20-30k isnt very much if you burn the place down.

it's called tenants insurance for a reason, because (in most cases) you're the tenant and do not own the building, so you dont care if it burns down.

(my case is a little different, i live in townhouse condos, i do own the place, but the condo board actually has building insurance included in our condo fees)

The building owners are required to have insurance on the entire building. As a tenant you only have to cover your own belongings. Actually you don't have to cover anything, it's optional.

I'm not sure if you guys are talking about tenant insurance as in you own the house and have tenants or you're the tenant. In the place I'm currently in I pay $10 a month for condo insurance but I get a $5 a month discount on my car insurance so it's actually only $5 a month extra. Turns out to be $60 a year to cover everything in my condo.

    i see, thanks
a friend of mine actually started a fire by mistake in his building and ended up having to pay some large amount which he said was covered by his tenant insurance.

A tenant is responsible for rips in the carpet so why wouldn't he have to pay for destroying an entire apartment?

The $10 I said before not only included $30,000 to cover personal belongings, but enough to cover for damage due to neglect (ie, roudy party, or oil fire on the stove burns half the place down).

I just got tenant insurance with Meloche Monnex at $200/year for the Premium Plus package. Covers all my bikes (there are many) up to $6000 each.

Meloche is good if you are a University Alum or a member of a professional organization. Discounts help.

Asking for a good price on tenant insurance is like asking for a good price on a "car". Depends on the car I guess.

Just have it added to your auto policy wherever that is.

The customer sets the amount of contents coverage ($20,000 - $300,000) and then there is another $1,000,000 liability coverage that gets thrown in.

I pay around $8 month for $30 000 coverage through RBC. And because I have my auto insurance with them as well I save 5% of both the Auto and Tenant insurance.
