care to elaborate what the display was?
It's a display of about 10-15 large pictures of dead fetuses and such. Basically the most graphic pictures the campus pro-life people can find to convince them that choice is the devil. Pretty disturbing shit.Originally posted by mo_virgin

I thought they got thrown off of campus last year for the posters. Maybe I should put up posters of hot naked women and say I'm a pro-porn, pro-nudism activist, just excercising my right to free speech.
Oh, and I should do it right beside their display.
Do it!!!
I agree, those pictures are disgusting.
Pro-choice all the way.
I can't believe the University let them do that.
Wow, that's classy ...Originally posted by sexualbanana

I don't know why anyone wants to deny a woman's right to choose. The only people who should have a say are the 'mother' and 'father'.
But I've heard the anti-abortion argument alot. While I don't agree with it, sounds like those losers on campus aren't the best people to discuss it like adults.
So the Canadian Forces gets chased off campus for recruiting, but they allow this? What's the deal?
I got it, I'm going to put up the exact same pictures right beside them wearing 95% white clothes, and PROMOTE abortion... Or repeatly punching to the stomache, or 'helping' them down the stairs (trip)..

I agree with thier views as a christian myself... but thier methods are somewhat extreme, and thier message is somewhat insulting to the average educated university student... They argue that the idea of the "choice" needs to be investigated more throughly in order to understand the issue, ie. The "choice" that the Nazi's made in exterminating the Jews... But I really feel that the issue comes down to what the majority of us believe is right or wrong...
I totally understand the pro-choice argument... In the situation where a child may be born into a world were he/she has no hope for survival or thier existence would be a torture in itself I can understand why it might be more humane to turn to an abortion...
But my belief is that in allowing such acts we undermine the natural processes of life. Human technology has taken us places in the last century that we never thought could be possible, but I don't think it was ever meant for us to cross certain boundaries. I know there is the whole argument of when a fetus becomes a living person or not, but abortion directly interferes with the natural processes involved in child birth, and I really do feel it's wrong. I agree with the convention that when the genetic materials of 2 donors becomes intertwined at the point of fertilization it becomes a person...
I do however respect peoples beliefs and opinions, but I believe that denying a person the chance to exist regardless of the kind of life they may face is simply wrong...
Now when I say I am against the modification of natural human processes I mean it more specific to abortion... I'm not against birth control or Tylenol... life saving drugs etc... The same goes for the development of stemcell research and the possibility of genetic manipulation in the future... ie. If it were possible to diagnose a degenerative genetic disease which could be corrected using a medical procedure before birth... I don't think I'd have anything against that... I have my own way of justifying this kind of thinking to myself... but that's another topic...

That's the whole argument. I would say the point of fertilization has the potential for life, but no more than an ovulated egg, or a load of sperm. Some say that potential becomes reality when the organism has its own blood, others say it's the point when it could exist on its own, even for a few moments.Originally posted by MidnightDreamer

As long as you accept there is no "right" answer, you're fine. Graphic anti-abortion activists are no different than those nutters than steal frozen eggs because they are "life".

Where is the display this yr?
Beside the Stor? Or by the C-train bridge?
*Ahem* From the Gauntlet, selected excerpts from an article two weeks ago:
Gist?
SU isn't involved. They tried to reach an agreement with Campus Pro-Life, but gave up and told them to negotiate with Admin. instead. SU VP Ops/Fi Joel Lockwood was quoted as saying any final decision would have to go through the SU, but U of C VP External Roman Cooney & Campus Pro-Life rep Drew Brown were under the impression that the SU'd removed itself from the decision-making process. The article ran March 2nd.
According to the SU website, the matter WAS discussed at the March 7th SLC meeting, but it's just on the business minutes and I have no idea what the dicussion entailed.
