feck, i'm racking my brain trying to figure out the 7 letter word riddle...maybe it's monday and i haven't started to fully function yet...oh well, i'm going to keep at it

I'm stuck at 1.5.
I got the 1 minute boy as the return torch runner and the total time should be:
10 mins for boy+grandma/1 back/2 mins for boy+sister/1 back/5 minutes for boy+mom=19 minutes.

Boy+grandma cross first (10)
Boy goes back while mom goes across (5)
Boy and sister go across together (2).

Okay I got it.
The boy and sis go first, to place the sister at the other end first.
Then the boy runs back quick to bring the torch to the two slugs, the mom and grandma who go together to save time (the 2 slowest).
Then the sis brings the torch back to get the brother back over.
17 minutes.
