Default AMVIC says your JDM car won't pass OOP anymore

Just got word from a reputable source that you can no longer register JDM cars in Alberta anymore, citing that right hand drive headlights are not DOT legal. That alone is enough to fail the car on the OOP, and there are a few cars that can't be modified to meet this rule (Skylines and Pulsars spring to mind).
They have compiled a list of these cars that fail under this rule and will apparently suspend the license of any shop that passes them. No more Skylines, apparently...

    discuss.

Well, park facing a garage door and look at your cutoff. Your right beam is probably lower then the left one. It should be the other way around, so you don't blind incoming traffic.

Your headlights are probably just fine, but they don't have a DOT stamp on them and are TECHNICALLY not road legal in north america as a result. this is a government institution we are talking about here, it is all about technicalities.

    What?

DOT rules were around long before the Skylines were legal to import.

Guess you're not a fan of seatbelts, eh?

So if you were to import a car that had a north american counterpart, could you just swap the headlights?

I would hazard a guess its new car dealers that are behind this, and are pressuring amvic,as lots of people are opting to buy old JDM cars for almost new car money...
I dare say that it could probably be challenged in court, as really, no part of any skyline would have DOT rating being a non north america model, just put a wide body kit on it, and register it as a kit car..
It just sounds kinda weak to me, and alot of JDM models could be retrofitted with dot lighting..
Maybe Amvic should ban 95% of all cop cars to, since alot of them dont have functioning DRl's as required by transport Canada since 1989...
    Follow the money...

Edit: I just had a look at some FC lights I bought used from Japan, all the lights have DOT and Sae on them. they are a generic sylvania headlight bulb, and the adjusters and mechansims are physically identical to NA counterparts..

just to clear a few things up...

    - it's transport Alberta, not AMVIC
    - they're looking for many other things, such as
    - side markers
    - ASE markings on all glass
    - DOT markings on headlights

lots of things like that, mostly because the canadian lights require reflex reflectors and other things like that to be built in, which are not required in japan

So they will no longer allow anymore JDM's in? What about the vehicles currently in Alberta?

No at most it means, the have to meet the specifications of DOT. Someone will make DOT approved headlights and such in time.

This will probably mean the end of JDM shitboxes for good, as most fanboys can barely afford to put gas in their cars let alone change the windows/lights and add markers.

The OOP has to be in the province the car in being registered in. It will move on to all provinces in time. I think Manitoba has this in place now too.

im sorry, can you exlpain why they are "shitboxes"? most LHD 240sx are getting the jdm motor swap, the jdm body condition are better then the local 240sx

its just a simple question, and dont say because their RHD, that doesnt make them a shitbox

This is false, if the vehicle complies with Alberta law, there is no problem.

False again, some right hand drive headlights are DOT-legal.

All cars can be modified to comply. If equipment doesn't exist to comply the cars, then it can still be manufactured and applied to a vehicle to comply it.

So lets discuss why you couldn't just say that the Alberta government is cracking down on non-complying safety equipment?
