Default So this is how people scam others at Kijiji these days.

I posted my Geforce 6600 GT for sale on Kijiji a couple weeks ago and only a few days later I get an email from a woman, saying that she wants to buy my card and have it shipped to the UK. She said she'll send me a check (in Canadian Dollars) and I should ship it out via DHL or FedEx.

I was wondering how this scam was going to work, so I played along and gave her my address to mail the check to. Today, I got another e-mail from her:

    Hi ,

Please i want to inform you that there was a mistake on the check ,instead of amount order my client issued out a payment of .$4,000CDN to you ,thinking i told him to send all the money he was owing me to you,but i don't think this wil be of any great problem.

Please as sson as you have received the check i will like you to deduct the total cost for the order and please you will send the remaining balance via western union or money gramm to me.

I'm willing to offer you extra $100 for your time that i will be taking in doing this.

Thanks Very Much and God Bless
If a check of $4000 really arrives at my place, what do you think I should do?

try to cash it, but I'd bet it's bogus.

I was on that site today looking at cars, and there has to be other scams out there. a coupe of 2005 g35 for under $10K. 95 modded supra for $5K. Something is wrong with that place.

If you cash it, don't got through the ATM!!!!!

Go see a teller, and have her validate it. I'll bet 4k it's a fraud, especially from the UK.

Do not bother cashing it.................. it will not go through and if it does, your bank will find out it a a fraudulent check later and I do not think you want that headache.
Do you understand the words that are coming out of your mouth?

The fact that people still try this shit tells me that some people are still falling for it which is pathetic. Don't even bother cashing as it will be NSF.

Well of course I won't cash it through the ATM. I don't need the bank to suddenly reverse everything on me. :P

I guess it shouldn't hurt if I check it with a teller.

I'd play it safe and don't beleive anyone at the bank.

    Here's why.....

Imagine you ask the clerk "So is this money really in my account?" and you hear a 'Yes'........then 15 days? 3 months? (it's an international cheque) the bank gets an NSF so they update your account by subtracting the amount of the cheque from your account.

Now you could argue "what if its a certified cheque?" My Answer: If you cant afford to get burned on this deal, then don't trust any claims of 'certified funds'.

MOREOVER, you've got to be really stupid to try and cash a worthless piece of paper, because it will still cost you an NSF fee.

An international check will take a month or two for it to clear, so it wouldn't even credit my account anyway. Even a US check took me 6 weeks.

    Haha. there you go!

Shred the cheque and return it to sender. Then tell your 'interested buyer' to you've voided her mistake, and that she can make new arrangements.

I bet you won't hear from her again.

It's a classic scam, and if the cheque does clear, it's because they already ripped someone else off and using this scam as a way to 'clean' the money.
