Ignition timing, sounds like it's too advanced. When you replaced your distributor you forgot to set the timing back on your car. Your going to need to find someone with a timing gun to get it bang on, but in the mean time you can patch it up yourself by turning the distributor until your car idles in the 800-1000rpm range. (I'm assuming that you put it on yourself and know how to loosen it off agian.)
Before you adjust the timing without a gun make sure that,
a) your car is at normal operating temp, and
b) your radio, lights, HVAC, engine fan, and any other devices that draw electrical power are off.
