    Default CIBC Banking

I just wanted to know what is wrong with my account. Today I tried to take out $200 from the ATM machine at SAIT and it said it exceeds my limit? I deposited a $1074 cheque on Friday. So anyone here know why I can't take out $200? Is there a specific amount of days I have to wait to take it out?

I'll head out to a CIBC bank if no one here knows why, after i'm done class

I have a crazy idea.. Call your bank

Why you are asking a forum full of car enthusiasts about your bank account is beyond me...

and yes usually 2-4 business days to process a cheque if deposited in the atm
instant in deposited thru a teller

Your account may be setup so you need the cheque to be processed before the funds become available. (this can be changed if you ask them to)

    OR

You may have exceeded your daily cash limit (have you taken out $200 or more before?)

    OR

Someone has copied your card, and got your pin #, and is now enjoying your money.

    Go to the bank asap.

it can take a few business days to clear that cheque, thats probably whats holding you up...talk to them and set up overdraft protection, that should tie you over in the event that this happens again

With CIBC you are only allowed to take $100 out if you deposit a cheque of anysize more then that, then they hold the rest, that's how it is with my CIBC account, you can take out $100, but you'll have to wait for the rest.

    Maybe on your account.

You CAN get this changed. I can put a cheque in for $3000 and take $3500 out the next minute.

It all depends on your credit as well, I don't have any credit whatsoever, so until I do, they won't change it. I've already tried.

I have a Visa with cibc, they will not up me from my $500 limit...even though I am working full time I have had it for about 3 years.

But if I put in a cheque I can withdrawal all of it right away, so I am not sure whats up with that.

Yeah generallu unless you have set something up with the bank if you deposit it will usually take 5 "business" days. So you have a bit of a wait going.

it means your account has a limit of taking out $200 a day from a atm.

CIBC cards are set up so you can only take out a certian amount of cash per day, and a certian amount on interac payment a day.

im pretty sure you can call telephone banking and ask them to change your withdrawl limit. if not head across the street to the home depot CIBC and get it changed there

    *EDIT*
as for the cheque you deposited.
CIBC is tricky, on your recipt it might say current balance that just means the money you have in your account.

and available balance, which means that you can only take out this amount. the rest of the funds are waiting to clear

it all depends on your access to deposit funds, if you deposit a cheque of 1000, and your access to deposit is only 500, you only get 500 and the rest are held for 5-10 days til the cheque clears, it all depends on your past credit history

I tried taking out money again today and still not being able to take out any money. It still says exceed account limit of $35. Waited 4 days now. Do u think I can withdraw cash if I went to CIBC and asked the person instead of using the machines?

    Thanks

Why don't you just call the bank? It's only 7 digits that you have to dial.
