Default Someone cashed my cheque WTF?

As the title says, a cheque in my name was sent out by the issuing company to a my previous address which they had on file. I knew this a week ago, and they advised me to wait till its returned, called in today, and they said that the cheque has been cashed????

I called the cops, and will be going on Monday to file a claim.

I wonder who is stupid enough to do this?

Anybody had a similar experience? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks guys

actually the defrauder who ever he is getting his ass kicked as far as I've heared.

To my understanding, this can be easily traced to that guy's bank account, charged with fraud, jail time, and there he goes, i'm just amazed how any idiot could do that, anyway, he's the victim of his own work.

Again, any do's or dont's are appreciated. Anyone been to that position b4, advice is highly appreciated.

I'm waiting to get a copy of the cheque on Monday and will be heading to the cops.

Crazy, just nuts. I'll keep the post alive, just so that if any beyonder ran into such a thing, we'll have something about such an experience.

Yeah, I found that thread, and it was talking about the same thing, but the opposite side of the coin. interesting.

The guy who posted this was thinking of doing it, in my case, the guy actually did it

Make sure you file, save page as in that thread for your own saftey that way he can't edit his post, and you have the original.

sorry, u got me wrong man, that other post was for some one who received a cheque (not my cheque, another one) and was thinking about cashing it and was collecting opinions lol ---- so his the defrauder in a similar situation, but not my situation

My cheque was sent to someone I don't know (living in my former rented apartment) and they cashed it. So I'm the defrauded in this case.

    sorry about the confusion

sorry guys, obviously I confused a lot of people. Dooms_bane was posting on a similar case, not my specific case (he was the thinking of committing similar fraud ).

Sorry for the confusion everyone but thanks for the support though

    lol

I'm just amazed how easy a fraud like this can be.

Banks will accept any check, no questions asked about identity, strange !.

I'm one of those guys who trust the system, but this makes me wonder if there is a system lol

    We'll see how it goes.
