It Rules. I can't say enough about that card... 13,000 on 3dmark2001 with no tweaking!! Me like!
Bought not built!
I have installed a few of them, down right amazing if you ask me.
I'm on a P4 2.8Ghz

Pretty hard to beat that card!

it kicks ass!
the directx 9 drivers are pretty good now. Just like any ATI card the first 6 months = crappy drivers. I have the odd small problem that is driver related but not too many any more.
run the test with the 03 benchmarks and this cards really rocks the any other cardOriginally posted by kevie88

Even then you won't truly realize the power of a 9700 until you play a DirectX 9 game. Just simply amazing.
It's too bad Doom III and Half Life 2 are still a while away. These games would truly take advantage of every feature since they were both developed using this card, and GeForce 5.
Radeon seems to be making better cards than nVidia now though. Should be interesting.
I know you don't smoke weed. I know this. But I'm gonna git you high today. 'cause it's Friday, you ain't got no job, and you ain't got shit to do!
Nvidia marketing may be better and their "future" products might be better as well but currently, ATI is the market leader in terms of performance. Of course, every 3 weeks something new is about to come out and will steal the performance crown.

rurmor is that Half life 2 is coming out before the end of this year.Originally posted by Dope Dealer

the new Radeon 9800 is pretty insane..
but im currently consideringly an ATI All-in-wonder 9700 pro myself
Im going to stick with Nvida, call me brand bias but I've installed 3 of those cards and mattering on what games you play they have had power problems or heat problems. Running off of a new Dell...

i'm trying to build a faster comp, i dunno wut processor speed to go with, and i'm scared 3 months later it willl be horribly cheaper than i paid for...
zephyr get a tbred 2100+ and an nforce 2 based motherboard with 512 corsair XMS pc3200. my friend has this setup he overclocked to 2.4ghz(1.73 stock) and runs a ti4200, he gets 13,300 3dmark2001 score
the xp2100 is 78 bux or u can get xp2500 barton(has more l2 cache, which speeds up everything a bit but doesnt overclock as well)
abit nf-7 is one of the best overclockers for nforce 2 boards, they cost 104-126 bux, depending what config u get
corsair xms3200c2 is 119 bux
all these prices taken from www.newegg.com and their in US dollars
just make sure u get a nice heatsink/fan combo(suggest slk800/900 with ~50 cfm fan) or watercool (thats what my friend has, its the best performance/quietness u can get, but a good watercooling setup will run u around 120 bucks)
max

I used to be a hardcore overclocker. No more of that, CPUs are cheap enough these days so you can buy fast and reliable. I just built a P4 2.66ghz, Radeon 9700 Pro, 512mb ddr ram, DVD Rom, basically the works. $1400cdn. That's like $900usd. Dirt cheap.
I had an Athlon XP system, but it ran into a few problems with my video editing software. I gave that system to gage, he seems to have no problems with it. It wasn't the fastest system, but it was a hundred bucks or so cheaper. I say stay with Intel, the price difference is so minor, you'd rather have a stable chipset/CPU combo.
As for NVIDIA, they're good at marketing, but they've always had inferior products, where the performance didn't match benchmarks. A year ago, NVIDIA was top because they killed off 3dfx and was the only company left to produce gaming video cards. Now that ATI has gotten their act together, NVIDIA's gotta ramp up their marketing again!
