Government Grants? *read me*

So i heard from a friend that there are things called Government Grants or what not.
Bascially i have been out of school for 8 years now, and no job i did however graduate High School (hey it was a big achievement for me). Anyways i do want to go back to school, i want to take this 9 month program at SAIT which is $12000, i heard that the government has a subsidy program who helps people like me (who has been out of school and no job) go back to school and pays for the program? There is just no way i can afford $12000 for a 9 month program, or get approved for student loans.

does anybody know what i'm talking about, or where i can find more information for this?
or where to apply for it.

i dont know if u can get that much, but a friend of mine is upgrading at bow valley and they only gave him 1200.

i took a $3000 course and they granted me about $1000 and i had $2000 loans, they won't grant you the full amount.

What program is 9 months long and costs you 12,000!! Thats insane. When I did my first year electrical, we all got grants but it really depended on a few things. Weird thing was, the people with kids and a wife and a house got less than I did. How they gather their figures is beyond me.

Thier net value is more. They "could" have re-mortgaged and paid it themselves, so the govt isn't as generous... also if their wife works they have more income too.
