    Default Cuba or Costa Rica

A group of us are planning a trip in February and some people suggested Costa Rica where as others suggested Cuba. I'm just trying to get the pros and cons of both and if people have travelled to either country and which they would prefer.

Cuba. The people are friendly, the resorts are beautiful, the water is warm and that lovely blue tinge. I love cuba, Im going back in 20 days.

I would choose Cuba, the people there are so friendly. I was there this past May and loved it.

Haven't been to either, but if you want safe, Cuba is the way to go. Wife's been and she loves it.

Fuck that. I went to Costa Rica last spring and it was amazing. Really cool country and people (universal health care, education, 5.5% unemployment) and amazing nature (zip lining, horseback riding, active volcanos). I was on the west coast and it was nice because it wasn't just resort after resort lined up on the beach. Stayed at Allegro Papagayo and it was the only resort within 10 miles.

My wife's been to Cuba and said there's no comparison. I've been to Dominican Republic and Mexico and can honestly say I'd never pick them over Costa Rica.

That's very true. You can't go to Costa Rica expecting a mexico like atmosphere. The resorts are good, but different. We spent half the time in the resort and half out in the country side. It was a much more involving vacation than the dominican.

I guess if you're going for sun and alcohol, pick the cheapest.

    Thanks for the info guys!

Been to the Dominican, it was alright, the people were friendly and the beach was awesome but there wasn't too much to see outside of the resort. That's why we're looking for something a little different this time.

Cuba is awesome. I've been there and I have to say that apart from getting the second worst sunburn I've ever had my second day there (It went to tan in about 3 days), the place is awesome. Despite the fact that it is a poor country, it is CLEAN. Streets are kept tidy, the cars there are beautifully maintained, the food is excellent, the people friendly, and deity of your choice help you should you happen upon a street party. Group I was with was gonna do the "Havana Sunset" tour along the main street, but a party broke out and before you knew it there were like 300 people there, people brought out steel drums, bongos, spanish guitars, and before you knew it the whole street was dancing, laughing, just generally having a good time. Cubans LOVE to party, have a good time, and they LOVE music.

Accommodations are also usually very decently priced and service is typically excellent. Also, if your hotel has a breakfast buffet, GO TO IT. The fruits and breads and dishes they put out will wow you. You haven't had fresh fruit until you've had Caribbean fruit. It just has so much flavor and power to it.
