Default Feds accused of immigrant passport hassle

TORONTO -- Ottawa is being accused of "harassing" immigrants who are now required to have their passports stamped on returning from abroad.

Upset Toronto immigrant groups and lawyers said the port stamp will be used to determine how long immigrants have been outside Canada. If the time abroad exceeds guidelines, the person can have residency revoked or be denied citizenship. "This is outrageous and an abuse of process," immigration lawyer Mendel Green said yesterday.

Good, maybe next time we have to evacuate a country in the middle east, there will be less "Canadians" that we have to take.

Why not stamp everyone's passport upon return?

Being an immigrant, we all know how most immigrants are abusing the old system with no tracking. This is just keeping everyone honest. You just admitted to cheating if you bitch about this.

Rich immigrants.... I don't think that exceed 10% of the immigrants that moved here. Nor do they have much impact to the economy.

At best, I think rich and working immigrants are offseting all the cost of benefits and welfare given to the non-working counterparts or relatives. But since none of us are having kids any more, we'll need to keep immigrants coming to support our society.

I do not see what the issue is or why this even made the news. If you break the rules you face the penalites, why is this foreign (no pun intended). I mean seriously..this is a joke.
