    Default Question about turbos

    Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to remove a turbo that comes with a car stock like the older mitusbishi eclipses and replace it with a different turbo like a jackson racing supercharger? Thanks in advance for your replies. All comments are welcomed and greatly apperciated, Thanks for your time.

Turbo system runs off exhaust gases and a supercharger is beltdriven. You can't replace one with the other.

Is it possible to switch the stock turbo with a better turbo then instead of a supercharger? Thanks for your time.

You can replace your stock turbo with a larger one, or smaller one, But unless you plan on doing something to the fuel system, i would just leave it alone till you do a little more research about how shit works, or save up more till you can go to a shop and say " make it go faster"...

Please disregard all comments that you have seen in fast and the furious, and same goes for fnf2... they are stupid

A turbo and supercharger are two different things entirely, yet both create power similarly by making the air that is being forced into the engine more dense.

Most turbo equipped cars have computers that are able to compensate if you put a slightly bigger turbo, but if you go too big you will need a fuel management system to compensate for the extra air that is being forced into the engine. Engines mix air and fuel, so you will need to add more fuel (usually though some sort of computer piggyback or replacement that alters fuel ratios).

Since a turbo and supercharger are two different things, they cannot be "swapped" for one another. A turbo is located where the exhaust gases are being forced out, while a supercharger replaces the intake manifold and receives air directly from the vehicles air intake.

however...you could take a stock supercharged car and remove the blower and turbo that (turbo 4agze's, without the z)...

yes you can replace the turbo with something bigger, but dont forget to get proper fuel management and might have to increase the pipes for better airflow or no gains will be had!

Remember, when you increase the turbo size, you increase efficiency, and therefore the amount of O2 entering your motor. Make sure your stock air metering/fuel systems are up to the task of handling the additional fuel required for the additional O2, otherwise, kaboooom .

Do you have an eclipse or something?

If so, it would probably help us better answer your question.

Honestly there are guys running 11.9s on the 14b turbo. I dont see any good reason to go to a bigger one. You blow it up and then 100$ later you have another new one.
