I read that the XBMC does upconverting for dvds, what kinds of codecs or programs does it use? does that mean if you install this frontend on a pc i can get a software upconvert (does that even matter if it's hardware/software)?

i was just curious since the things i watch only consist of dvds and media files on my pc

here's a nice tutorial on using ffdshow
the key is to tell the program to run ffdshow, rathe than just having it on in the background
