Default What home security provider do you use?

Looking to get a security system for my future house. I was curious if anyone wanted to post a review on your provider?

    I am in Edmonton

    Thanks

    Dogs.

They prevent more thefts than security systems.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

Security systems are useless. Trust me.

    1. You can have up to half an hour or more before anyone responds to it.

    2. It wont be police that respond 99% of the time. It will be an alarm company with an unarmed usually poorly trained person.

+1. All an alarm will do is prevent a thief from raiding your WHOLE house, most of them know an alarm sounding means 20 minutes to grab the most expensive stuff and run.

An alarm will also alert you to people entering your house while your asleep, but so will your shih tzu.

Get a bigger dog to protect both the house, and the shih tzu

ADT I think. I think it's worth it if you leave your house a lot because
    A) It's a deterrent when they see the stickers and the units
    B) Before we got ours activated (the previous owners had it installed) there was a power out and it went off. Holy shit that thing is loud, I was scared shitless because you could hear it from the end of my street easily (probably about 1KM+) (plus it was echoing off everything).

Chances are, most robbers will leave once they hear the alarm, crackheads might be another story but I don't think I really have that issue in my area

Also, are you going to get motion detectors? You'll have to keep your dog somewhere it won't set them off plus try and get a control unit that's easy to use. Mine is CODE+1 to turn it off, CODE+2 for doors only and CODE+3 for doors and motion detectors. My friend has one that he told me things need to be turned on and off seperately, so he has to turn on the motion and then turn on the doors. Him and his family are too lazy to activate the motion alarms because of it, and even though it's only 1 extra step I don't think I would go through the hassle either.

As for the system not doing any good... i dont care much about the response times of the security personell, I like the idea of something alerting me when an asshole has broken in. The shit-su doesnt bark at anything....he is of little help

You get a discount off your home insurance premium if your house is monitored. Greater discount if it's wired for fire detection too.

+1 on ADT. My folks have had their system on each of our houses and one instance in Palliser (SW Calgary) the guy was caught by the Police who happened to be patrolling in the area in the alleyway. The house in Oakridge has it and last summer, both homes on either side of us were broken into as was the home on the end of the street. Our home was left alone with the ADT signed posted rear/front of the house. Easy to use and wouldn't use any other system.

My house shoudl have VOXCOM within the week, just waiting on the landline.

Heard good things and landlord (freind) already has the security system installed just the landline was missing, so basic land line goes in and should be working.

Blue Heeler/Rotti as Backup and Pitbull on the way
