I bought a few Dunlop ULTEX Jazz III picks a couple weeks ago. It took a couple hours to adjust my pick attack and hand position, but I quickly noticed a significant increase in speed and clarity.
I threw all my nylon and tortex picks in an empty case and bought a handful of Jazz I, II, and III's to replace them.

I've got a bunch of Ultex Jazz IIIs and absolutely hate em. Spent a couple weeks trying to get used to them but my picking hand would cramp up after awhile no matter what I did or how light my grip was. They were just too stiff to get any kind of dynamics with and too small to really play with.

    9-46 Hybrid Slinky.

I have some 10-44 Jazz Flat Wounds that rule but they're so hard to find.

    Yellow Tortex FTW +1

Whats the purpose of those weird looking ones?
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague.”

grinding on strings w/o tearing up the side of the pic, and it looks like they make nylon ones now

its also nice to have a few different kinds of picks as well, metal, shell, etc.

a quarter + a delay pedal can make some really interesting sound, even billy gibbons uses a mexican peso

Brian May uses a coin as a pick too. Bizarre.

I tried using a dime years ago, tore through strings like you wouldn't believe.

    I use picks ahaha
Whenever I pick up a guitar and don't have a pick (which is almost never since I always forget them in my pants pockets) I'll try and play em with a quarter. I have no idea how anyone could do it..

The only thing that sounds cool playing with a coin is pick slides... well I guess they'd technically be called a coin slide in this situation haha.

if you think thats weird, you could always try to get ahold of a toroise shell pick

myles at fretworks has some interesting picks as well, but you mostly tell the difference with those while playing acoustic, which makes sense.

Whenever I can't find a pick, I use those little square plastic things on loaves of bread.
