A Ferrari is a high maintenance chick, you spend money regardless of what you do with her. You can baby the C63, or slap on all seasons, and you won't be spending anything but yearly maintenance. Of course that's like dating a stripper and refusing to fuck her, which would make you gay.

OMG I need to play with you guys badly. My neighbours have recruited me to their band and it's god awful. I'm stuck on a bass guitar and the drummer looks like he's trying to break skins when he plays.

^ Holy shit, are you having that built at a "custom shop" for you?
I'd love to do that for a bass. Just dont have the coin laying around that it would cost to do such a thing right now.

I however, don't do replicas. I will be blowing my hard earned money on one sooner or later
Nothing wrong with a replica of it plays good. Slash recorded and toured Appetite for Destruction with a Les Paul copy. It's funny that Gibson released a genuine Appetite guitar... a replica of a replica of a gen Gibson lol.

That guitars will run you around $1500, not hard to find luthiers who will do custom builds

I was playing a vintage Starcaster (78 I believe) a few weeks ago (family member has one). He's the original owner, IMS. Kind of a weird guitar, with weird controls, but it's a blast to play. Definitely has its own flavor.
Maybe I should trace it and make a couple templates just to see how they turn out. Looks like it's a strat neck heel.
Is the one you're having built all maple, or is he using something else for the body? I've got a huge ~20" wide piece of hickory sitting in the shop waiting to be turned into something...

this is my custom built tele
some of the rest
I believe it is alder, maple is heavy as hell but might not be bad if it is semi hollow. The neck should be similar to a 70's strat heel, the headstock is the tricky part though, most aftermarket "paddle" headstocks don't have enough wood to work with. I just went with a CBS strat style headstock to avoid needing a custom neck.Originally posted by TKRIS

Maple isn't too bad, that hickory weighs a ton though. Shouldn't be too bad if it's just two 1/4" pieces for a top and bottom though.
I'd be scratch building the neck, so the headstock isn't an issue.

If you can get pics, that would be amazing! What color was it?Originally posted by TKRIS

I'll take some next time I'm there.
It's black, with an awful lot of honest fretboard wear and checking. Looks great. Tons of mojo.

I doubt it. I think he's still kicking himself for selling his old Jazzmaster.
He's got a beautiful old Gretsch as well, and I can't see him selling either of those guitars.
