Nikon D80 or Canon Rebel XT?

ready to buy one of the two as they are for sale right now.
I know how to take pictures, and now want to get into DSLR.
I won't be buying accessories/lenses for it right away as after all I'm still a student.

which should it be?

All my friends have the Rebel and love it. I dont shoot but if this was a democracy I would say the rebel wins

Good choice... IMO XT is a much better cam than the D40, and since the recent price drop good value for the money.
