Does anyone know any websites where I can check up on stocks (Canadian Companies---Eg. Air Canada, Nortel Networks etc.). I used to check it on channel 52, but I don't get Canadian channels anymore due to our satellite.
Thanks.

I use Yahoo Finance, you can setup portfolios to track as many stocks both TSE, NYSE, NASDAQ and int'l as well. Tons of info there. Otherwise stockwatch and stockhouse are alright but Yahoo Finance is the shit!

I use bigcharts.com, find it a pretty good free site.
Also, Bloomberg is good, if you're looking for FX quotes or commodity prices.Originally posted by Porsche_944

i use yahoo finance......its good because you get news updates every few minutes, and any news that the company you have in your portfolio appears in, it shows up as well.

Let's say I wanted to get into buying stock and stuff. What's the best way for me to go about it?

Buy an S&P 500 Index fund, and save yourself the headache of picking individual stocks. It will outperform 99%+ of any individual stock picks over the long haul, and it will require 0 energy (and no worry).
Almost nobody makes money on buying/selling individual stocks. 90%+ of day traders end up losing money, and even the professionals suck at it. If you insist on buying individual stocks, make sure you have a long term outlook (no more than one trade per year maximum) coupled with a very carefully chosen portfolio (especially in terms of diversity).
Big problem with S&P 500 and other highly diversified index funds is that they aren't too much fun to brag about.. they don't make any good stories, cause there is no drama.
