One hurt in restaurant fire
By PABLO FERNANDEZ, CALGARY SUN
A woman is in hospital after a southeast Calgary restaurant burst into flames shortly after 3 p.m. yesterday.
Firefighters believe the blaze, which originated in the kitchen, spread quickly throughout the Hoa Lan Restaurant, located at the corner of 17 Ave. and 42 St. S.E.
The victim was believed to be a 50-year-old woman who worked at the restaurant.
"She received serious burns but they were considered to be non-life-threatening," said Emergency Medical Services spokesman Mike Plato.
The woman was in stable condition at Foothills Hospital.
Onlookers watched as flames shot out of the back of the restaurant and traffic was re-routed away from the scene.
"The fire was going particularly hard in the kitchen area," said Calgary Fire Department Capt. Garry Davidson.
"There was extensive damage to the kitchen and the rest of the restaurant ... it's pretty much written off," said Davidson.
Smoke residue, water and ashes from the blaze, which took almost 30 minutes for firefighters to beat down, covered every wall, window and ceiling of the establishment. The blaze's cause has not been determined.

Maybe the are cooking methamphetamine in the back. Can't see how cooking pho can be that dangerous.
