    Default King of Petro Points

I saw there is a mastercard which gives people petro points for every dollar they spend on it. I know petro points can be used for gas, so I thought what would happen if I went to a place like Mountain Equipment Co-op and bought a $400 pair of boots, used the card and returned them. After a few dozen pairs returned would I be able to get some gas or would they keep refunding the points everytime I returned something?

    Thanks for the input.

Pretty sure the points get taken away if u refund them...

I got 105,000 points and I never really use it, had it for less then a year..

the only thing with petro points is everytime i want to use them the people at the gas station say my card suddenly doesnt work right after they put the points on it from my gas purchase.

Personally, I would rather be the King of England, but hey, to each his own.

$13500 equals 1 and a half tanks of gas for the car. That's not bad, but it would be hard to manage buying that much stuff and returning it. I'm surprised no one has tried this.
I guess I could order a box of gps units and go get mcdonalds and then return them.

I liked it when you were able to convert Petro Points to PC Points. I usually spend my PC points on video games and DVDs. Now that they took that option away, I just let my Petro Points build up.

What kind of things do you get using PC points??? (how much you have to spend for X points, and what items are redeemed with X points?)

1000 PC points is equivalent to $1.

I've been collecting Petro-Points for years. I don't use them much, except for things that I would probably buy at the gas station anyway. I'll get free car washes for my wife's car, free litres of oil for top-ups, washer fluid, etc. I also used them to pick up a set of booster cables, and a spare tire gauge.

I mean, I'm getting gas anyway. The points are just a bonus, and if I get a free litre of oil, or some free washer fluid when I need it, you actually drive away feeling pretty good, instead of feeling like you just got bent over for buying at a gas station instead of Wal-Mart.

Yeah the mastercard takes the points away for returns. I've tried it

I have close to 600,000 points. I should do something with them.

So you'd do that for $4 worth of gas? Thats kind of pathetic.

I use mine all the time to get lift tickets for various ski hills.

The strange thing is that he chose MEC of all places, and only a $400 item.

I once ordered stuff off costco's website, used a mastercard and when i returned the item in store, they credited my debit account because they didn't have a mastercard system in the store. If you really wanted to pull some scam like that, go buy some diamond rings or something off costco online and return them.

    But consider this scenario:

-Using a Airmiles American Express card, you purchase several high-priced items at Costco.
-Your Airmiles account gets credited after a month or so
-You use the Airmiles for a trip or other merchandise
-Your Airmiles balance is now zero
-You return items to Costco receiving the purchase price back on your Amex.

I assume Amex would try to debit your Airmiles but if your balance is zero what would happen?
Would you get a negative balance? Would airmiles try to recoup money for what you spent the airmiles on? If the account remained open, would you have to work your way out of the hole? What if you closed the account?

I used Costco as the example because they have long return policies.

    Just curious.

Air Miles controls all miles given out... so I would assume they would have you at a negative balance. Amex and any retailer who offers Air Miles has nothing to do with the distribution of the Miles, and AM is not that stupid.

As for the Petro Points Mastercard, I've had one for a couple years. I think it's great because you also save another 2 cents/litre of gas and earn more miles on every day purchases. I haven't used my Points to buy anything since I was broke in high school and got $10 of gas... but I bet I probably have quite a few.
