Currency Exchange

I'll be going to the US in a few weeks and looking to exchange some money for while I'm done there. Most places I've looked at, they'll sell ~0.97US on the Loonie. Just wondering if anyone here knows of any places that will have an exchange rate that's closer to what the markets are trading at, which is ~1.05.

The dollar has dropped about a dime since the original post. Unless you're exchanging a large volume of currency, a currency exchange house is not worth your time or effort.

it depends where you're going... some place in the US will take your CDN $ at par...

As an individual consumer it is impossible to get you money changed for what the markts exchange rate is. Generally banks will all charge about 3% to change your money, which is probably what your running into.

Have you tried Calforex? I usually get all my currency exchanged there... This last time though, I went to RBC (if you bank with them) and you get a better exchange rate for larger quantities. I got a better deal for exchanging $2001 than I would have only $2000.

So does anybody know which place usually has the best rate for exchanges? Is it at the major banks, or the smaller currency exchange places?

I'm looking into getting some Japanese Yen for an up-coming trip. Any help is appreciated!

if you knwo anyone at a bank they get a staff rate which is almost on par with what it is trading at, not the 4-6 cent markup that banks charge

I just opened a US account at TD the other day for this exact reason.
I was fooling around with the exchange rate converter tool,
and found that when using $3000, the exchange rate was 1.0156 .
When using $10000, the exchange rate was 1.0139 which is the employee rate . . .

The dollar was valued at 1.01 yesterday .
Currently the dollar is valued at 1.008

edit: i just tried $3000, and the rate is up to 1.0224 today

At my bank we only get one cent off the posted rate.
