Default Don't secure your home: Thieves might get hurt.

Robbery victim told not to further secure home because doing so might result in criminals hurting themselves when they try to break in next time.

Interestingly, there are laws on the books in some cities in Quebec and Ontario that prevent citizens from making their houses too difficult to break into. They've implemented these laws under the guise of making it difficult for organized crime to fortify safe houses so the cops can't get in.

Think about that for a minute: In some parts of Canada, you can't put a secure steel-core door on your house because it makes it too tough for the cops to kick it in...

    Does that bother anyone else?

ridiculous, i would just build what ever i wanted i cant believe people even try to defend criminals... if a criminal gets injured breaking into your home/business the police should baton his teeth into his stomach... soon enough the criminals will have the "right" to enter your home under some sort of bull$#!& freedom act...

    damn laws...

I bet it bothers the steel-core door salesman.

But yes, I don't understand why you couldn't have a steel frame and steel-core door to help keep thieves out. I agree that somethings not right about those laws. If cops want to knock down a door badly enough, they can use a truck.

    Because I have expensive shit.

Well....*I* don't, but some people do.

Why would you need deadbolts on your door? To keep criminals out.
Why bother deadbolting a door that can be easily kicked in?

FWIW: When I finish my basement storage room, it will be steel studs, rebar strapping, 2 layers of chicken wire on each side, a layer of 3/4" plywood on the outside and then drywall on top of that, along with a steel framed door tied 3' back into the walls. If you're building a room, and you're going to have expensive shit in it, you may as well spend the extra couple/few hundred bucks and make it as secure as reasonably possible.

i debated this issue with a law instructor of mine, whether it's better to just shoot and kill an intruder (in the States moreso), because if they hurt themself they can sue you. So it's better to just kill them instead, thats allowed.

A bit off topic but I was told by a cop once that if you have a legal firearm in your house that you plan on using for home defence, you may want to consider an illegal (non registered) one as well because if you shoot and kill an unarmed intruder, you can get in a lot of shit legally, so better to kill him and plant the other gun... ha!

same sort of idea as to why you can't by a home wireless router with 256 byte encryption anymore. they were taken off the market by the government because it was too hard and took to long to crack.

It would also be harder for police/ambulance/fire rescue to enter your house in an emergency.

I think you should be able to do whatever you want to keep your house secure, and if the cops don't like it then they need to improve neighborhood security to the point where people don't feel the need for excessive security measures.

You don't need to be a criminal to not want 5 meth heads kicking down your door and beating you senseless for the little cash you keep on hand so they can get their next high.

They could if they had a tank at every home, but that's obviously not feasible. That's why I think home security should be left in the hands of the owner without any limitations.

Steel doors make the house look like a prison or the neighborhood look like COMPTON.

When I lived in Vancouver, you could always tell who had a grow op in their house by the doors and bars on the windows.
Plus the BMW's and Benzo's in the drive way
