    StaNOHyavich, that seems to be the only place the stress makes sense, and stress is very strong in Russian. It sounds pretty Russian to me.

    To the OP: I don't know about Slavic languages outside of Russian, but I would be willing to bet that they are moderately related. The suffix -ович means 'son of' in Russian, at least, and alone it's pronounced 'oveech' (the last letter ч being pronounced ch as in cheese). The strong и reduces because it's unstressed, so it becomes 'ovich.' That's a pretty safe bet.

    Not sure exactly where it originates (whether Russia, Serbia, Croatia or which) but definitely Sta-no-yeh-vich...except with the no, not so much the word "no", but more the word "know" except without the W (the only way I could really describe it in English)
