first guitar

what do you guys recommend buying as a first guitar?

I have been wanting to pick up the hobby for a while, but at this point I'm still trying to figure out whether or not I really want to get into it. My price range is around $300 for everything (guitar, tuner, not sure what else I need?)

my second question would be where the best place is to buy a new guitar? would it be okay over the Internet, or should I go into a store?

you will have no problem getting a beginner setup for that money, guitar works is good, i'm a fan of long & mcquade myself.

I would go to a store and talk with somebody, they will let you know what guitar to buy, then if you wanna cheep out just tell em you will think about it and check online.

I can recommend the Ibanez SZ. I'm still a noob myself and just got one not long ago on Kerry's recommendation.

You might have to spend a bit more though, if buying new. SZs can be had on clearance now (<$500), but they've been replaced with the new SZR at a similar price point.

Check pawn shops too, I know cash converters on Macleod has a pretty good selections from acoustic to electric.

Do you think it'd be okay to buy a used guitar from a pawn shop? I don't have any friends who play guitar, so how do I tell if it works okay?

That being the case, Yamaha makes a nice basic accoustic guitar for around ~$180. I don't know the exact model but look for one around that price point.

I'm using an old accoustic that I took over from my wife (she gave it up a long time ago), and it's actually not very good - cheaply made and difficult to play, etc. But when I picked up one of those Yamahas off the rack at a store to try I was blown away at how much easier to play it was.

I have a Washburn Acoustic D10 Model.

Bought it new in 1993 back on the Rock.

Still has a wonderful sound.

And a few battle scars........
