Dallas to Calgary --> recommended route? shit to do? things to see?

I'll be in Dallas next week, and am driving back. I know that its a damn long drive, just wondering if there are certain routes that would be faster/less boring and/or safer?

I have at the most 4 days to get back, was thinking about stopping at Denver for the first night then Great Falls for the second. Can anyone recommend anything? even just a certain portion of the drive? tips?

The possibility is there but it'll most likely be 2 people 2 cars.

If you have 4 days, going over to LA and up the pacific coast to vancouver would take twice as long, but would be far less painful.
