In Alberta, do you have to keep an active AMA membership in order to continue to have their car insurance through them?

no i don't think so....they are probably seperate business models....
When you renew you will have to have an active membership.
From their website, "AMA insurance is available exclusively to AMA members".
Took 2 minutes to find with a google search.
You have to be a active member to use their service. ANY services and products.
yeah unfortunatly you do, good thing is you get 4 free tows and a book where uyou can save money by showing your card at places
Thanks for the info.....I have an excellent driving record.....can anyone here refer me to their vehicle insurance agent.
Thanks in advance
Don't go ama, they suck, in my opinion. All I've ever gotten from them was wasted time and money, and getting screwed over. as well as their customer support for phones are useless and won't admit to their mistakes
My last dealing with them is less than satisfactory.
I don't know if the problem is with manpower or processes. They used to take care of everything. Not this time.
The only thing they're good for is an emergency or motorbike insurance (one of the few who will insure high performance bikes).

I think their main complaint is that they did not receive the stolen property they paid for.
I had (wanted) to insure a vehicle on a Saturday, and my insurance company wasn't open so I was going to switch my insurance to AMA for this new vehicle... they quoted me more than double than what I was currently paying! (So I waited until Monday)

I got a quote from them a couple of times, they were never competitive, at least for me. I have the membership, though - one tow makes it worthwhile, especially if it's an RV or something that requires a deck truck.
BTW, AMA quote was never competitive. But they make it up with service. Now their service is shit, I'll probably go to TD and save a few bucks.

And the card is worth it. My 4runner broke down in Red Deer and I had it towed all the way to Edmonton for free

I have been with AMA for about 5 or 6 years now, and find thier rates pretty competitive, infact, only place that i found with a cheaper quote was meloche-monnex (sp?) that beat it by about $200 a year, but i don't think i can go through there as I am not alumni or whatever.
currently i am paying $1200 a year for full coverage on my 2007 jeep with a $250 deductible for everything, only thing i opted out of was glass coverage for the front wind screen.

Turbos cost money
Both make whining noises
Make the smart choice.
