went to tazza for the first time today (http://www.tazzafresh.com/), after hearing great things about it for a few years. by far the best schwarmas i've had in calgary. Jimmy's and the desert deli don't even come close.

the chicken was seasoned well, but what really made these sandwiches stand out is taht instead of the typical iceberg lettuce, cheap pickles and banana peppers you get at most places, these are filled with an awesome blend of fresh herbs (parsley was really prevalent), some really top-quality pickled cukes, some nice hot peppers, and i'm not sure what else, but it was fucking awesome. they have regular ($7 or so) and large ($9?). I got a regular and it was the perfect size.

i really wish they had fresh-fried falafels, though (they prefry them and microwave them when you order). for some reason I can't find anywhere in calgary that makes fresh falafels (the medeterannean cafe across from chinook used to, but they closed recently). imagine going to a restaurant to order french fries, but they were pre-fried and then nuked to order! same thing, basically.

except that 80%> order french fries at a fast food place, so they never have a chance to sit very long. Typically the kinds of places you can get falafel (IMO) is greatly geared towards convinience and speed, rather then sit down and wait.

That and falafel is not all that popular... Demand isnt there.

    It's unfortunate.

yea, but that doesn't matter. to make them properly, they need to be fresh fried. it only takes a second to make them - grab the dough from the fridge, scoop the balls and drop them into a fryer. takes shorter than french fries (which are frozen and have to cook).

i grew up in minneapolis and had never seen a microwaved falafel until i moved to calgary. i'm sure you could buy them at big supermarkets or something, but you would never see nuked falafels in a sandwich shop. also, when you buy them on the street in the middle east, they are fried to order and definitely not nuked. if it can be done properly everywhere else, why can't we do it that way in calgary?

i think it's just because the service industry in general has sucked here for sooooo long. the economy here has been so good that people don't have to really work to make money, or go that extra mile to make something special so that people would come back. you can see the same problem in all sorts of business in cgy, take e.g. the pizza industry. in the states, there is too much competition so shitty shops don't stay in business long.

I agree Tazza is so good. Their donairs are tasty and not that expensive. I would recommend it to anyone.

I enjoy going in to Jimmy's A&A though. It's alwasy a lot of fun in there and close to my work.

I agree, that blond girl that works in there is fucking hot. My coworkers and I usually go on Tuesday afternoons for lunch and shes always there with her perfect smile and mesmorizing eyes.

My friend wrote his number on a napkin and she refused to take it. Shes beutiful though, but definitely hard to get.

I think that some places are going to start frying fallafels on the spot because the demmand is so high.

She probably thinks you guys are corny. That's why she didn't accept that napkin. Probably thinks the other "bros" in this thread are corny as well.

I moved to Calgary from Toronto and I think the donairs are way better here. I try to have one at least once a week. I think I will be going to Tazza alot. Their donairs were almost impeccable.

After briefly reading some of these reviews my friend and I went to Jimmy's and the food isn't bad, but I can't believe the fuss some of you guys made over that blonde girl. Honestly if you think she's some sort of unattainable goddess I'd hate to see the kind of girls you go out with

Aida's Donair in McKenzie Towne is pretty good.

Not the best donair, but it is certainly nice and convenient.

That's where I went to get my donair fix, when I lived in the area.
