when will memx have these babies
I was looking forward to this too... but at $599 it's not exactly a budget laptop anymore... too expensive for me.
I was looking at a EEE PC 8G to use with a PLX data logger. but if the 900 is going to come with windows already then i mine as well wait.
anything over $400 isn't budget anymore.

Cos...
i don't know what u mean by prototype...
on top of actual pics there were working models at cebit
wind's slated for a june release with an atom chip in it, and right away asus announces the 901
i don't think it's a good idea for anyone to buy an eee at the moment
here we go:

Would the Atom chip make much of a difference if all I'm using it for is surfing the net?
@ $550 why don't I just buy a cheap Dell laptop.
Atom will make a huge difference to my understanding. Much better battery life AND faster processor. Well worth the wait IMO

There are two version of the 900 that we carry. The first is the one with Linux - it has a 16GB SSD. The other one has XP, and has an 8GB SSD. Both are $549.95 - right now though (May long weekend) we're currently sold out, as they went almost right away. I'm taking people's names for this already.
As to some people asking "why would you get one?" It's because people have different needs. Just because you see just the price doesn't mean that others do too - I had a customer today who wanted a portable solution that she could take to meetings - she already had a desktop and laptop, so she didn't need something with a lot of power. She was looking for portability and simple functionality, which was the 900 perfectly - I've got her name down for one. Does she care about the Atom? Not a chance.

did u tell her the wind will be a better deal or did u just go ahead with the IPR?
don't think anyone in this thread's arguing the usability of these tiny laptops, we're reasoning which one of the bunch and the upcoming ones are the better buy. obviously u only like to advertise what's in front of you at the moment, rather than joining in
I'm not sure what you're implying here, but it seems to have a negative connotation so I'm just going to ignore it.Originally posted by dragonone

While there are other products in the pipeline that are similar to the EEE PC, it's all speculation right now as to the quality. People are saying that it "seems" like a better buy. I'm not going to jump in and agree, because I've seen too many products that appear to be good on paper but then turn out to be junk. I've never heard of MSI making computers at the scale that ASUS does, and the MSRP for the XP version is the same as the 900 XP version. That's only if they don't change it for Canada. What's the difference? The Wind gets an 80GB HD (not SSD) and has Bluetooth, as well as the Atom processor. Does my customer care about any of that? Not in the slightest. She needs something now and the 900 met all of her needs. Also, she was the one who asked me for that - I was showing her all of the models and might have recommended a regular 4G.
