Default Alberta Provincial Safety inspection certificate info...JDM?

    Hey:
I am coming into Calgary to look at a few rides and possibly buy a JDM car this weekend, I'm from Winnipeg and I need any info on Alberta Safety information. Unlike MB where we have public insurance that has a monopoly, I heard you guys/gals have private insurance with several types to choose from.

When you 1st take ownership of a JDM car I heard there is a 14 day max "Alberta Provincial Safety Inspection Certificate" or something like that which it has to pass, and this is the safety my province recognizes, and only this type.

Any info would be greatly appreciated as I would likely take it to a garage on this Saturday to put it through inspection, I want it done in Calgary before I buy anything and take it back too Winnipeg for obvious reasons.

Any websites, suggestions, or good shops for this kind of safety would be awesome if anyone has any info, please feel free to pass it on.

    Thanks,

I'm pretty sure every province has there own provincial inspection, and one from Alberta will not be valid in Manitoba.

You would be wasting your time trying to get an opp done here. Although it would be a good idea to get a general inspection done on any car your thinking of buying for your own piece of mind.

    Hope that helps.

Apparently MPI (Manitoba public insurance) takes the inspection I mentioned above, which from the sounds of it is much more detailed than a general inspection (which MPI does not recognize).

Even though they told me this, they had no number or website for me to get information from for Alberta provincial safety...which I thought was strange to say the least.

    Thanks,

    Thanks,

I bought a new car! MPI in MB does honor a Alberta OOP saftey. I can only say positive things about Sean at www.zenautoworks.ca he was very helpful and made the process easier than anyone could have expected for an out of towner. I am very pleased with the car and Sean was a very down to earth kind of guy, very pleased with the customer service on his end, can't say enough.

    The car I bought
