Mounting Flat Panel with Wall Plate

Im installing a flat panel (not the problem) However I want a clean install. Should I purchase a wall plate like this? I will have a DVD player, Satellite HD Reciever, Xbox

Even with a wall plate it will look ugly, unless the wallplate is hiding behind your TV, which now that I think about it, is probably your intention. I say yah, if you are mounting your tv on the wall and running cables within the wall, a wall plate like that would make fro a clean install

If it's behind the TV, you don't need a plate. Just leave a hole and feed cables through it. Saves a couple bucks, you can run anything you want through it and nobody will see it since it's behind the TV.

Personally I'd put a conduit in the wall, for ease and protection of cabling.

You will also need something to control the inputs on the TV. Because with the plate, you'll only have one HDMI or one set of composite cables running to the TV. So you would need an A/V receiver or an HDMI switch that will change the input signal on the cable before it goes into the wall.

You should put in an electrical outlet as well that's teamed off another outlet that's close. It's illegal to run the power cord through the wall, even though lots of people do it.

You would want a recessed plate on that electrical outlet also.


Or somthing like this with conduit to another one by your AV gear.
That way you can run/re-run as many AV cables as you want.

That original plate doesn't allow for digital audio except through a single HDMI port, and the component ports are analogue video. You'd probably want a hole like that guy said so you can run multiple audio/video cables, not just one.

Perfect Saves you money on cables, and mess behind the TV as well. Running (flexible) conduit through the wall isn't as difficult as it sounds...

Monoprice is where I got the images from for those plates, they also sell awesome cables of all kinds, and the flex tubing in the walls.

I order from there all the time.

If you're running HDMI then the quality of the cable doesn't matter. It really only matters in long cables or if you use a passive repeater.
