Question Wide Angle lense or Macro lense

I want to get another lense for my camera and can't make up my mind as to which lense I should get (would use the most).

These are the two I have in mind.

Any suggestions? Anyone have either of these lenses?

You could buy a wide angle prime and you could also reverse it for use as a macro lens until you can afford a dedicated macro lens. The shorter the focal length, the more magnification the lens has when reversed.

    wide angle.

id get a high end point and shoot instead of a macro lens.
u can get way closer, its cheaper, and you have an extra camera.

^flip it backwards,i'm a noob for this camera stuff but i tried it with a 17-55 and a 50-200 and it still works you must make it the closest zoom on both i think like mitsu said, did a 'macro' of an american dime, the 'In God We Trust' part and you can see the shine from the different metals used in making it from years of being in ppls pocket, i'll try and post it , not the greatest, but still a cheap macro 'lens'

You can get "reversing rings" that allow you to mount a lens on your camera backwards. Unfortunately, with Canon lenses that means you lose aperture control and makes it kinda useless, or at least very impractical.

the 2 ends of your lenses together. like if the end of the lens is curved:

    )(

lol, just take your other lens and hold it facing the lens attached to your camera, then look into the view glass

lol please someone explain better or show a pic

edit: like this except he has a reverse adapter or w/e

They can be, I have a couple Sigma EX lenses and they're very good.

I would check out the lens reviews on Photozone for the specific one you're looking at.

Their 105mm and 150mm macro lenses are optically as good as anything from Canon/Nikon, etc. I don't think any reputable company makes a bad macro lens.

The Sigma 10-20 is very popular, the main complaint being sample variation (some copies sharper than others) but you only ever hear from the complainers so I would think this makes up a very small portion of the 10-20 owners.

The 18-50 f2.8 MACRO lens is excellent as well - it doesn't have quite the same magnification as a true macro lens but if 18mm is wide enough for you, it could kill 2 birds with 1 stone as well if you want wide and macro.

They have a few other gems but you're probably most interested in their macro and wide angle stuff.

unless you're doing a lot of macro work, the 10-22 will be a more useful and used lens. I've owned the 10-22, great for traveling and landscapes and the funky wide perspective. I used it mainly at the 10-12 mm end. I would buy it again. Lots of creative things you can do with it.

I would go with the wide angle, it just has more uses in my opinion.

    Sigma 24mm F1.8 macro. 2 in 1.

    http://sigmaphoto.com/lenses/lenses_...81&navigator=4

no, it's not a 1:1 macro lens, and no, it's not ultra wide, nor is it the sharpest lens in the world. but it's one of my most used lens.

    Here are a few samples

I also have the Sigma 10-20 and really like it.

look at the 17-40mm f4l. More versatile, same price range as 10-22, not an efs lens so better resale and compatible with full frame bodies.

I just bought the 10-22 after looking around for lenses.

Going to be picking up the 24-105 down the road and I think i'll be set for now. Then all i'll need is a telephoto and theres a 3 lense package which covers a wide array.

I'd say go for the 10-22, as awesome as macro shots are you run out of stuff to shoot, but wide angle is unlimited.
