whats a good place to check VIN numbers?

thats right, if I was to buy a used car, is there a place online I can check the VIN numbers for cars as to whether or not they are stolen vehicles or wrecks

There is always www.carfax.com , but I find that's it not really that accurate...at least for Alberta anyways.

when i ran a carfax on my vin it was very inaccurate. i think the only records carfax picks up are from ontario.. not to sure though. just go to a registry and run the vin there. unfortunately if it's from out of province it won't show where it came from. yes our system is stupid.
