So according to this I was wrong. However, even if I was right, than like I said, the women would be designed to accomodate that, meaning that it wouldn't be a problem.

Its the differences in piping trail as well as faucet your using. In reality there isn't too much of a difference in the content but the "path" the water flows can cause it to pick up different impurities.

In terms of performance there is not a large difference all else being equal, more bolts are used for wheels that require a larger load eg. 6 on a truck, 4 on a civic. The reason for the varience is similar to that of why we use the metric system and Americans do not...the pattern is basically the evolution of various car manufacturers using their own pattern when first constructing their initial cars rather than conforming to what another foreign automaker may have put together.
